Prudent SMEs prepared for recession with online marketing
Over two-thirds of UK small and medium-sized companies believe recession is on the cards, but few are doing anything to prepare for possible lean times ahead.Those that have thought about making preparations plan to ditch traditional marketing in favor of online options, according to research.
Although simply updating their web site was regarded by respondents as the key tool in their armory, particularly in hard times, almost half the companies hadn't updated their site within the last month.
Social networking and blogging weren't seen as useful parts of the online marketing mix. Two-thirds thought blogs were overrated, while only roughly 11% were using social networking, although almost 17% planned to try it this year. Despite increasing spends on online marketing by many companies; the survey shows that few SME businesses are making it pay.
