Global spending on Enterprise Web 2.0 is at the start of a five-year growth spurt, becoming $4.6bn market by 2013, according to forecasts from Forrester Research.
Growth levels of 43% a year are anticipated by the research firm, as organizations recognize the power of mashups, podcasting, and social networking for connecting with customers and employees.
Web 2.0 tools will be wrapped into enterprise collaboration software "and disappear into the fabric of the enterprise" said Forrester research analyst G Oliver Young.
While current spending is focused inwards on employee collaboration tools, Forrester believes that this will shift 180 degrees and customer-facing Web 2.0 will outstrip internal collaboration spending by almost a billion dollars.
"Social Computing and Web 2.0 marketing are still in their infancy; and in general, the market is still in an experimentation phase," said Young.
