Professor Peter Wyer: PhD; MBA; Dip Germ; PGCE (Business); BA (Hons)
Peter Wyer recently joined the University of Derby from Middlesex University’s Centre for Enterprise and Economic Development Research (CEEDR). He is Head of the Centre for Entrepreneurial Management and Professor of Entrepreneurship.
Peter’s research focuses predominantly upon small business strategy development processes and enhancing understanding of the nature and form of strategic management in growth-achieving SMEs. His research approach incorporates a comparative dimension that examines small business development in the developed economy context of the UK, the developing economy context of Malaysia and the transitional economy context of Russia.
He has run his own SME business support company for much of the last 20 years specialising in strategic development audit/support for growth-seeking small businesses. His consultancy work has included the design, development and delivery of small-medium size enterprise management training provision in Russia and Masters level curriculum development in the area of small business management in Malaysia.
He has also undertaken consultancy activity for major British companies, based upon the outputs of his academic research activity, including projects for British Aerospace and the National Freight Consortium and has conducted contract research for several organisations including the Welsh Development Agency, the Small Business Service the Insolvency Service and One North East. His external appointments have included that of Quality Assessor for the Higher Education Funding Council and member of the Board of the North Manchester Business Link. His output in the field includes articles, book chapters and conference papers disseminated across nine different countries.
