Peter Russell, 46, based in the UK, has been an open source software advocate since its beginnings. Peter, who is VP Media and Marketing Joomlatools, was a core team member of Joomla and Mambo. He created the strategy for Mambo's transition to Joomla, which saw community usage thrive to the amazing numbers Joomla now enjoys. Peter is responsible for creating the phonetic Joomla! branding elements, which has become so highly visible today, Joomla can confidently claiming to be the most popular content management system on the planet.
Prior to moving into the open source world, Pete coordinated marketing and IT for The Melbourne University which had all of the hallmarks of what open source communities now represent. He was the communications manager for security leading up to the Sydney 2000 Olympics, provided PR strategy for the NSW Police and other government departments.
In pure IT, Peter has worked as a regional manager for Apple Computers and coordinated many large projects involving multiple resources in various countries. Prior to blending IT and communication skills, Peter worked as a internationally published photo-journalist, including such titles as the Sydney Morning Herald, The Guardian, ACP and many more.
