UK companies seek to fit IT jigsaw together | UK companies seek to fit IT jigsaw together |
The rip-and-replace school of software buying has fallen out of favor in the UK as companies look for ways to fit together the existing pieces of their IT jigsaw together, reveals a survey.
More than half of the 150 UK IT directors asked about their future spending said they would focus on modernizing their existing systems and business processes rather than buy new software, compared with just 18% three years ago. This trend was also reflected in spending patterns on both packaged and in-house applications which were expected to tumble 17% apiece over the next three years.Instead of major new business software, the survey found that firms were seeking to invest in business process management (one in five) and services oriented architecture (one in four) that would help them get the most out of their existing software and IT set-up. One in 10 was also looking at business activity monitoring. "Too many UK companies are sitting on an IT jigsaw. Business infrastructure technology, such as BPM and SOA, helps companies to put the pieces of the puzzle together for effective performance," said Jim Close, country manager for Software AG UK, which carried out the UK survey.
