Ad campaign to back up new laws on illegal workers
The government has launched an advertising campaign aimed at highlighting the new penalties faced by employers who take on illegal workers.

Under the new legislation, some rogue employers could be hit with fines of up to £10,000 or prison sentences, the campaign will say.

The rules come into effect in February, and the marketing campaign, which begins on 14 January, has been created to boost awareness of the measures.

Liam Byrne, the Immigration Minister, said: “Illegal working attracts illegal immigrants and undercuts British wages. That’s why we are determined to shut it down.

“The message is clear for employers – we will not tolerate illegal working.”

Mr Byrne added: “This highly visible marketing campaign will ensure employers have no excuse for breaking the rules.”

The crackdown on illegal working forms part of the largest overhaul of the immigration system in 40 years.
